Bindra to set up five-star hotel in Dehradun
DEHRADUN: Beijing Olympics Gold medal winner Abhinav Bindra is planning to set up a luxury hotel in Dehra Dun, the proposal for which was recently cleared by the Uttarakhand government. "The government has given clearance to the five-star hotel project of Abhinav Bindra," a top official said. The project, that is estimated to cost Rs 150-200 crore, is undertaken by the High-Tech Group of Companies, owned by Abhinav's father AS Bindra. Abhinav, who is the first individual Olympic gold medal winner for India, is one of its board directors and the company will enter the hospitality sector for the first time through the project. The government has asked AS Bindra to submit map and other plans of the project to Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), the nodal agency for development of Dehradun city, the official said. Bindras last year submitted a proposal to the government for construction of the hotel at their farmhouse spreading over an area of 9-acres here. The hotel is considered to be a gift from AS Bindra to celebrate the heroic achievement of his son in Beijing last year Top banks have evinced keen interest in funding the hotel venture of the Bindras, sources said. Born in Dehradun, Abhinav pursued his education at different schools in the city. His father had constructed a shooting range at the farmhouse where he got his initial training.
